Research Notes

While two runs of Grade 47 movements are recorded in the official Rockford Serial Lists, earlier movements have been observed in ambiguous runs. This indicates actual production is likely more than the 1,800 that the serial lists designate. The Grade 47 is one of the earliest nickel movements produced by the Rockford Watch Company. The black-inlay markings engraved on the elegantly damaskeened plates are extremely artistic. The Grade 47 movements are typically marked "Rockford Watch Co. - Rockford, Ill. - Adjusted - Patent Pinion." However, movements from the first designated run have been found without the "Adjusted" marking. Various damaskeened patterns have been observed, but the most feature a square-enclosed design. No advertisements have been found for the Grade 47 movement.
