Dial Details The "private label" dial (Henry J. Howe) is original to the watch and the jewelers location is engraved on the movement. Hamilton ledgers show the watch as sold to Howe's Jewelers Dec. 1899. Howe founded his Jewelry business in 1878 and from 1885 to 1978 Howe's Jewelry occupied the ground floor of the neo-gothic White building in downtown Syracuse.
As received the dial dirty with multiple hairlines about the seconds bit and outer edges and a repair beneath the "8" where a chip has been filled. Leaving the dial overnight in warm with a few "Polydent" denture cleaning tablets removed the dirt from the surface and in between the hairlines making them nearly invisible.
Movement Markings Serial no., "Safety Pinion" stamped on train bridge.
"17 Jewels", "Central City, Syracuse, N.Y." stamped on barrel bridge.
This 924 is a "private label" watch produced by Hamilton and sold to jeweler Henry J.Howe of Syracuse NY. "Henry J. Howe" appears on the dial while the movement is engraved "Central City, Syracuse, N.Y." Central City refers the Syracuse's nickname (due to it's central geographic location in the state) which was also on the city seal from 1877 to 1986.
The 17j 924 and 925 were made to replace the 16j 930 and 931 which ceased production in 1899. Early 924's/925's retained the same dameskeen pattern as the 930s/931s until it was changed between ser. nos. 120340 and #120529 and remained the same to the end of 924 production.
