Research Note: Production Note: Waltham-era production serial numbers collide with later production. The 23-Jewel movements were manufactured by Waltham for the E. Howard Watch Co., while the 17-Jewel movements were manufactured by E. Howard in a later era. The serial numbers for these production blocks overlap up to approximately serial 1000600.

Serial Number 1002846 was reported as inaccurate.

Note: The patent mark on the back shows “patd’08”
and the case was engraved as a gift in November of
1909 suggesting this serial number is from 1909 or
earlier and not 1911
Curator Response: Thanks for the report. The production years displayed are simply estimates based on serial number extrapolation, usually accurate within +/- 3 Years. This is especially true with the Keystone Howards, as no factory records detailing the serialized production survived. Based on your evidence, it is likely the watch was produced in 1909. If possible, upload images of the watch to the site to provide documentation for furture research, especially since this is currently an undefined run.
