Curator Response: Thanks for the report. Not likely. The Hampden Watch Company typically marked movements "17 Jewels" that featured 17 Jewels. They marketed the 17-Jewel movements as superior in the 1890s and wanted customers to easily identify the movements accordingly. If the upper center is jeweled and the movement is not marked, it is almost certainly 16 Jewels. A quick inspection under the dial will verify this.
