Serial Number 861301 was reported as inaccurate.

Note: Dear Curator: From 1896 Hampden catalog.. New
Railway. Model 3 open face, Model 2 hunting. Both
adjusted to 6 positions, temp & iso..
14k gold patent regulator.
I will post the ad under s/n 861301 for
reference.
Curator Response: Thanks for the report and images. The level of positional adjustments on the New Railway grade are inconsistent in original catalogs. While the 1896 A.C. Becken catalog (which you uplodaded) indicates adjustment to six positions, the 1896 Marshall Field catalog simply lists the New Railway as "Adjusted." By 1899, the 23-Jewel New Railway was introduced to the market, and the 17-Jewel variant was then listed as "Adjusted to Position" instead of specifying the positional adjustments. For this reason, the database has simply listed this as "Adjusted" for now, pending future research. With an estimated prouction date of 1894, it is very likely that this particular New Railway movement was indeed adjusted to six positions.
