Louis Herzog and Alred Frank. "Manufacturers of Gold Watch Cases and Jobbers in American Watches." Sold Plump 10K gold cases in 6, 16, and 18 sizes.
Identification: L. Herzog & Co. used a trade mark consisting of a palm tree on a beach. Cases marked with a palm tree emblem consistent with a manufacturing date in the late 1880s are reasonable attributed to L. Herzog & Co.
Established in 1877.
Louis Herzog & Co. purchased the building at 52 Maiden Lane in May 1882, aiming to convert the space into desirable offices for jewelers [JC May 1882]. At the time, the company was still listed as "importers of watches, dealers in diamonds and jewelry."
By 1888, the company had begun manufacturing 10K gold cases, as supported by an advertisement in the March 1, 1888 issue of The Jewelers Weekly. A facimilie of a tradmark featuring a palm tree was included in this advertisement.
In 1892, the firm of Ingomar Goldsmith & Co. consolidated with Louis Herzog & Co. to organize Herzog, Goldsmith & Frank. It appears the company had terminated watch case production by this point in time.
