Gibraltar
This mark is attributed to the North American Watch Company based on marking styles and serial number progressions. No period references have been discovered to date. The "Gibraltar" and "Westbrook" cases carry serial numbers in the 4 million block.
During the 1923 conference with the Federal Trade Commission exploring the regulation of case markings, the "Gibraltar" and "Westbrook" cases were used as examples of poor quality gold-filled cases that could never reasonably meet the standards expected by the guarantee stamped inside the case. Because of these deceptive practices by some case manufacturers, the Federal Trade Commission specified a new standard of gold layering on cases marked "Gold Filled." Eventually, all year-based guarantees on gold-filled cases were disallowed in the United States.
