Rockford 62a

Two runs of 50 movements each are designated as "62a" in the official serial lists. It is unclear how these movements are differentiated from the standard Grade 62. Visual observations have not yielded immediate determinations.

The Rockford Grade 62 was manufactured in two primary models. While Rockford Serial Lists designate the first run as Model 8, various observations indicate this run is actually comprised of Model 6 (Hunting) movements, like the second run. These two runs feature an exposed escapement, 11 screw-set jewels, and nickel plates. Following a gap of approximately five years, a new version of the Grade 62 was offered built on the Model 7 (Openface) design, featuring 17 Jewels and adjustments to temperature and positions. A few of these runs are designated with a "Plain" finish within the serial lists while the others are simply listed as "Nickel." Two-Tone movements have been observed in the last two runs indicated as "Nickel." The 1899 A.C. Becken catalog mentions that either Grade No. 62 or No. 82 can be purchased with a "nickel gilt finish" for $18.00, a $2.70 premium over the standard nickel finish. The 1896 A.C. Becken catalog describes the movement as "adjusted to heat, cold and position" and features a "sunk second dial" with "red marginal figures." However, not all movements are fitted with this dial.
