George Hunt

E. Howard & Co.

December 31, 1842 - May 29, 1881

Master Watchmaker at the New York Watch Company, c.1870. Died from Malaria in 1881 at the age of 39.

George's father, Seth Hunt, was the treasurer of the Connecticut River Railroad.

By 1863, George was already a watchmaker living in Northampton, as indicated by his Civil War draft registration record.

In July 1872, Mr. Hunt traveled to Europe and visited Geneva, Switzerland to learn about the establishments in the watch trade abroad. The Swiss watchmakers were able to gain favor in the eyes of Mr. Hunt. When he returned around 1876, he purchased Burdick & Gray and became a jeweler in Springfield, selling imported watches by Borel & Courvoisier and Chas F. Tissot.

According to his obituary, George Hunt was also employed by the E. Howard Watch Company.
