William B. Warne was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and moved to Philadelphia with his family when he was still young. Warne served during the Civil War and became a member of Meade Post No. 1.
In 1861, he entered the jewelry trade with his brother, Edward A. Warne.
In 1865, Warne partnered with David F. Conover and reorganized as Wm. B. Warne & Co. This partnership lasted until Warne retired in 1873. When Warne exited the business, Conover reorganized as David F. Conover & Co., becoming one of the most successful jewelry wholesalers in Philadelphia.
William B. Warne died in May 1894.
