| Dial Details | The Freeport Watch Manufacturing Co. began operations in 1874 in Freeport, Illinois. They purchased their factory equipment from the Mozart Watch Co. this same year and produced around 400 watches before a fire engulfed the building on October 21, 1875. The insurance was not enough to cover the loss, so the firm dissolved. Several company officers and stockholders were tried for arson but were acquitted. Only around one or two dozen watches survived the fire. |
