Dial Details | Joseph Hills Washburn was born in in Hancock, New Hampshire on June 10, 1829, and went on to become a jeweler and watchmaker in Natick Massachusetts. Before moving to Natick he is listed as living in Boston, MA in 1850. On September 7, 1852 Washburn would marry Helen Melinda Alvord of Chicopee, MA. For reasons unknown, the couple would later move to Houghton, MI in 1860. This did not last long, and in the 1860s Joseph Washburn moved to Natick, MA. Upon his return, Washburn became an inspector at the Tremont Watch Company. Washburn would later become business partners with his brother, David Elijah Washburn under the banner J. H. & D. E. Washburn. Later in the 1870s, Joseph Washburn would go into business for himself. This would continue into the 1880s, and he would later have an apprentice under him by the name of David W. Wall. Washburn passed away on May 29, 1896 at the age of 66. He is currently buried in Newton Cemetery in Newton, MA. |
