Dial Signing Name Moulton & Lunt (private label)
Dial Details Moulton and Lunt refers to two jewelers by the name of William Moulton and John E. Lunt who decided to combine their business interests. Very little is known about Lunt. He was born in 1854 in Newburyport, Massachusetts and would later become a member of the Freemasons in 1889. Lunt passed away in the year 1932. Moulton on the other hand is more well known due to his family lineage. He was born in 1851 and came from a long family of silversmiths that dates back eight generations all the way back to the early 1600s. His ancestor (who was also named William Moulton) was a silversmith in England in 1602 and then immigrated to America around 1637-1638. The Willaim Moulton listed on this watch never actually made silver items himself, but rather focused on the jewelry business. He was originally married to a Mary Augusta Mason in 1883. It is unknown whether this marriage ended through death or divorce. Moulton's next marriage was to a Carolena Margaretha Amend in 1898. Although there was a 21 year age difference between the couple, the marriage likely lasted until Moulton's death. Although Moulton's death is not known, the couple is listed together on the 1940 US Census - when William Moulton was 89 years old. The Newburyport business of Moulton and Lunt is listed as having operated at the address of 40 State Street, and later on at 45 State Street. William Moulton retired from Moulton and Lunt somewhere between 1915-1917, and John Lunt continued working at the store location into the 1920s.
