Dial Details | The Anglo-American Watch Company was formed in 1871 after the fall of the Tremont Watch Company of Boston. After Tremont went out of business, Aaron Dennison took the leftover watch making machinery and brought it to Birmingham, England. Here he was able to find willing financial backers for a new watch company, and the Anglo-American Watch Company was born with Dennison as the manager. The first 150 movements that the Anglo-American Watch Company produced were exported to the United States, but an abundant supply and little demand for watches did not give a very profitable return for the company. The Anglo-American Watch Company folded in 1874, and would be the last watch company that Dennison would be directly involved in. Aaron Dennison would go on to start the Dennison Watch Case Company, whose cases would be used for many imported American watches of the time. |
