Dial Details | This timer has an early style dial and beats in quarters of a second. The Auburndale timer went through more than half a dozen dial changes. This one has wavy numbers on the outer indices, and arrows coming off the smallest sub-dial. and one arrow at the 12 o'clock position of the outermost dial. This early Auburndale Timer has a gilt finish (most have a nickel finish) along with "Pat Applied For" in script lettering on the movement. Later this script was switched to stamped block lettering for cost saving purposes. William A. Wales patented the Auburndale Timer and the patent was issued on May 28, 1878. However, the Auburndale Timers were being produced before the patent was actually issued, as evidenced by this example. |
