Dial Details This timer has an early style dial and beats in eighths of a second. The Auburndale timer went through more than half a dozen dial changes. This example has thick blotchy-like numbers on the subdials with no numbers present on the outermost dial. This style of dial was in production roughly around the start of serial #125, and lasted to around serial # 600 or 700.

This early Auburndale Timer has "Pat Applied For" in script lettering on the inside of the movement. Later this script was switched to stamped block lettering for cost saving purposes and "Pat. applied for" was switched out with either one or three patent dates. William A. Wales patented the Auburndale Timer and the patent was issued on May 28, 1878. However, the Auburndale Timers were being produced before the patent was actually issued, as evidenced by this example.

It is unknown whether the balanced wheel is original on this example due to it being of the smaller variety, which is usually seen around the start of serial #1000. However there is another early example which was very close to #147 in the production timeline (that being #154) which also has a smaller balance wheel, so the jury is still out on this one.
