Dial Details | A very late production example, the most unique feature about this timer is that it has a power reserve indicator. A strange feature, considering that it doesn't have any numbers for a visual cue of when to rewind the watch, and that the Auburndale timer was used to time short events such as horse racing, and was never meant to run for long periods of time to begin with. This Auburndale Timer beats in quarters of a second and has three stamped patent dates on the inside of the movement. It also has the name and address of a watchmaker scratched into the plate, right under the added wheel of the power reserve. An exact match was found to the name and address belonging to a German watchmaker by the name of John G. Schaefer, who worked at 414 D. Ave. in the town of Cedar Rapids in Linn County, Iowa. Mr. Schaefer likely did the modification and signed his work. |
