Dial Details Dr. Wilbur W. Hutchins (1859-1954) was an optometrist and jeweler who lived in the Canadian border town of Newport, Vermont. Hutchins strived to have the most complete repair shop outside of a watch factory, and in 1891 he traveled to the American Waltham Watch Company in order to receive training on repairing and adjusting Waltham's product line. This training was through George H. P. Stone of the adjusting department. While there, Hutchins also attended lectures given by D. D. Palmer at the Waltham Horological School (Palmer once held the position of foreman in the adjusting department at Waltham). In 1897 Hutchins installed the Seth Thomas town clock in the Orleans County Superior Courthouse tower, which is located in Newport. Wilbur Hutchins passed away on June 11, 1954 at the ripe old age of 95 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport, VT.
