Movement Markings | Hamilton 505 Patented ADJ. U.S.A. Pictured in Rene Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 154, it was released in June of 1961, with an original price of $175. It is quadruple signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day, and has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position. The Savitar was the feature watch for the introduction of the new improved 505 movement. It has a triangular shape similar to the Ventura and Pacer (with the exception of the point being at the 3 o'clock position rather than the 9 o'clock position), but with a round dial. This may have been an attempt at a compromise to appeal to the conservative Hamilton buyer, without abandoning the Richard Arbib inspired styling of the Electric series. Sales were disappointing, however, so the production of the Savitar was a very low, with an estimated 2700 pieces. |
