Case Details Housed in a later vintage case than the manufacture date of this watch. The display case shows off the watch very nicely. Elgin.org dated this watch to 1880.
5-5-16. Seen on E-bay. Sold for $519.00+ $8.00 shipping. Elgin Watch Co. 16 size 15 jewel open face lever-set center-seconds pocketwatch. Known to collectors as the "Doctor's Watch", this was a very early center-seconds design that Elgin made in several grades in the early 1880's. This example is fronted by its correct friction fit enamel dial and "moon" style hands. Watch is housed in a later era Hamilton Watch Co. glassback display case, so definitely not a period appropriate case but it is good functional housing for the movement and shows it off well. Movement serial number is 743541.

Running but balance motion is weak and was sluggish to start and I think likely this movement has not seen a cleaning and oiling in a long time. Very nice looking movement with just some typical mild surface marks. Dial is superb. Case is in good shape with a nice in hand look but does have some sharp spots along the seams where it has been opened with a knife or tool.
