Chicago Coin Silver
Known examples with this "Coin" and "Chicago" mark are generally from the early 1870s. Many times, this mark is incorrectly attributed to the Chicago Watch Case Company. However, know production predates the era in which the Chicago Watch Case Company was manufacturing cases.
Blauer & Sperry manufactured silver watch cases out of Chicago from approximately 1866 to 1872. According to Crossman, Sperry ended up going to California to operate the case company for the California Watch Company (Cornell). Several surving examples of the "Coin Chicago" cases have been found paired with Cornell movements. This association supports possible attribution to August Sperry or Blauer & Sperry.
Marking styles and habits are also consistent with cases marked "Chicago" and "B&S" - known products of the Blauer & Sperry partnership.
