Research Notes
The original Series 1 designation was utilized for the Waltham-Howard 19-Jewel 3/4 Plate Model 1903, Adjusted to 3 Positions, Temperature, and Isochronism, as described in the c.1907 Howard Watches Catalog. This movement was distinguished by a wide damaskeening pattern. The following year, the Series 1 was offered as a straight-bridge Model 1907 with 19 jewels and a going barrel. This design was quickly replaced by a variation with a safety barrel and featured a hooked train bridge. In July 1910, the company announced the “New Howard Railroad Model,”an upgraded Series 1 featuring 21 Jewels instead of 19 Jewels.
