Early Elgin grade lists designate Grade 84 as featuring 15 jewels. This count does not include the jeweling provisioned for the sweep-second mechanism. Elgin part catalogs published later indicate a total of 16 jewels.

The 1885 Otto Young catalog indicates the "No. 84" was discontinued. As a result, these movements were being sold at a reduced price of $36.50.
