Research Notes

Named for Daniel G. Currier.

Early movements feature "Currier" name in formal script style with "Springfield, Ill" in casual script. Like many other grade, the markings were modified to a Blackletter style c.1882.

The Currier was produced in Model 1, 2, and 3 movements with top-plate and paired jeweling configurations.

Movements with serial numbers lower than 300,000 will feature the top-plate jeweling resulting in 11 (Model 1 and 2) or 12 (Model 3) total jewels. Around 1881 (serial number 300,000), the Currier grade was upgraded to 13 total jewels, with paired jeweling on the escape, 4th, and 3rd wheels. The 1884 Otto Young & Co. catalog lists the grade with 15 Jewels.

1882SFM: Listed with 13 Jewels.
