Initial Marking: J.S.
Location: New York
Years of Operation: c. 1892
Identification: The standard cases produced by Jeannot & Shiebler featured a JS monogram, typically place between the 1 and the 4 (for a 14K gold case) or the 1 and the 8 (for an 18K gold case). The company also supplied unlabeled and jeweler-labeled cases, which are more difficult to identify.
Generally, the company marked cases with "Warranted" slightly arched above and embossed eye-shaped element with "18" or "14" between two stars. Under the karat designation are the words "Carat Fine" arched around the bottom profile of the center eye-shape. The case serial number is marked underneath in an arched layout similar to the text above, with considerable space between each of the digits.
The J&S cases can quickly be distinguished by identifying the two stars on either side of the karat designation within the embossed eye shape.
