Research Notes

Some Grade 49 movements produced early in the second run were finished with a two-tone design and sold as special order private labels. The standard Grade 49 movements are marked "R.W.Co. - Rockford, Ill. - Safety Pinion." Various damaskeened patterns have been observed. #244078, from the first run, has been verified as marked "Adjusted." #249142 and #249144, two-tone private labels from the second run, have been verified as marked "Adjusted." Examples from later in the second run are not marked "Adjusted." No advertisements have been found for the Grade 49 movement.
