Research Notes

The Rockford Grade 64 was produced in a single run of 1,000. However, it is believed there are classification errors due to transposed grade numbers in the official factory serial list. The first designated run of Grade 46 [240,001-241,000] is listed as Open Face, Gilt, 11 Jewels, Model 4. In contrast, the second designated run of Grade 46 [248,001-249,000] is listed as Hunting, Gilt, 15 Jewels, Model 6, while the preceding run is designated as Grade 64 with features identical to the first run of Grade 46 movements. For this reason, it is believed that the preceding run [247,001-248,000] is actually Grade 46 despite being listed as Grade 64, and the second run of designated Grade 46 movements [248,001-249,000] is actually Grade 64. This would represent the only run of Grade 64 movements, so comparison with other known runs is not possible. If true, the Grade 64 is a Model 6 movement featuring 15 jewels and a gilt finish.
