Research Notes

The Rockford Grade 66 is an 18-Size Model 7 featuring a damaskeened nickel finish with 11 jewels in settings. Some movements are fitted with the switching mechanism on the barrel bridge to transition between pendant-set and lever-set operation. The standard Grade 66 was fitted with a plain regulator. However, the 1896 A.C. Becken catalog offers the standard Grade 66 and a "Grade 66x" with a patent regulator for a $2.00 premium. By 1899, the Grade 66 was no longer offered in the A.C. Becken catalog.

Rockford Serial Lists designate one run of Grade 66 [404,301-405,000] that is inconsistent with the other runs, characterizing the movements as featuring 17 Jewels instead of 11 Jewels. No observations from this run have been recorded.

The last three runs of Grade 66 are mixed with two-tone movements marked "17 J" and "Adjusted" [Unknown Grade]. Additionally, in the third-to-last run, multiple movements marked "21 Jewels" have been discovered.

While the factory serial lists indicate a total production of 14,700, with the mixed runs while the grade was retired, actually production is expected to be slightly less.
