Research Notes

Rockford Serial Lists designate the Grade 80 production into four distinct runs with an estimated total production of 250. The first two runs are listed as featuring a "Spot Gilt" finish while the last two are listed as "Nick & Gilt." The 1896 A.C. Becken catalog describes the Rockford Grade 80 as featuring "17 ruby jewels in red gold settings" with a "gold damaskeening on nickel" finish. By 1899, the grade was no longer offered in the annual A.C. Becken despite the openface "sister" Grade 60 continuing to be listed. Multiple movements have been found in the third run upgraded and marked "21 Jewels," possibly around serial number 439525.
