Case Material Silver
Case Manufacturer Crescent Watch Case Co.
Case Grade/Model
Case Serial # 4771
Case Details The Crescent coin case is one I had on hand in my spares. The inside of the outer cover is quite dimpled with small dents on the case back, which has feint remains of a die engraved floral pattern on it. The hinged bezel and both rear covers fit into place very well without being to easy or difficult to open or close.. The outer edge of the case ring has a nice coin edging detail also.
Dial Material Glass Enamel
Dial Type Single-Sunk Single-Pressed
Dial Style Arabic
Dial Signing Name Waltham
Dial Details The model 1892 ATCo. 18s watch was purchased as a movement only, with no dial or hands. The dial was from on hand spare Waltham dials which were (I think) produced much later as replacement dials and are usually single sunk and center pressed like this one.
From looking at the dials back it is easy to see it has been oven fired; not the clean copper seen on later Melamine type dials. Finding hands has started to be difficult. Out of the perhaps dozens on spares not one hour hand fit, so I split one near it's size to fit until a model '92 hr. hand is found.
Movement Markings "Appleton Tracy&Co. Waltham, Mass. and 17 Jewels Adjusted"is stamped on the train plate and the serial number is stamped on the outer edge of the barrel bridge. This later ATCo. also has a small slot on the outer edge of the train plate and the sunken balance and allows adjustment of the balance screws without removing the balance wheel.
The movement is in excellent condition and still capable of keeping accurate time with daily a daily error of between 0 and -7 seconds per day depending on the position of the watch.
