Grade 928 no. 35410 was finished 7-11-98 and shipped 4-06-1899 from Hamilton's factory to C.N. Gorham, New Richmond Wisconsin. Research online showed that C.N. Gorham was a manager at the People's State Bank of Hudson, a town near New Richmond, and I assume that Todd ordered the watch through the bank.
Though Todd sold jewelry and watches, his main profession was an "Oculist", fitting and selling eyeglasses.
The watch was purchased 8/20/16 at an online auction. The seller, a long time collector of Hamiltons, had obtained the watch from a friend who had bought out a jewelry store in Wisconsin where the 928 was one of the few remaining pocket watches, in 2014. Through a bit more research it was found out that the owner of the store's father, a Mr. Greaton, started working for Mr. Todd as a watchmaker in 1939. Todd died shortly after WWII, and Greaton bought the business in 1950. His daughter took it over and sold out in 2014. Interestingly it would appear that the 928 remained in the same town it was originally shipped to up to that time.
Watch timed from 8/26/16 to 9/15/16. 20d 22h.
