Case Details | Because of the poor condition and cover closure problems with the watches original Keystone triple hinged J.Boss 25 yr. (#4441115) case, the watch was re-cased in a Bell 14k gold filled screw bezel and back case. The rear case cover has the initials "CHR" engraved in the cartouche. Overall all this case is in very good condition cosmetically, outside a few small areas of brassing at the edge of the bezel and a few spots in the stem. The die engraved floral design detail on the case back is crisp and shows nearly no wear. |

Movement Markings | Hamilton Watch Co. Lancaster Pa. 21 Jewels Adjusted 80536 The watch was cleaned and oiled, with a new alloy mainspring installed, finishing August 15 2016. Repairs included replacing the gold cupped jewel for the 2nd wheel (minute hand) which was broken. A donor jewel from a parts movement (974) was used. Unfortunately the jewel was just a bit too small for the original gold cup and the brass cup from the 974 was used instead (having a very hard time getting the 2nd tiny cup setting screw in!!!). The jewel is placed into the cup from the back and is simply friction fit. The dial has 4 feet and hair lines at 12, 6:31 and 7:35 in the outer dial and a prominent one extending from the 10 sec. mark in the inner sink horizontally through to 4:00 and the outer dial edge. Cleaning the dial in Efferdent removed much of the dirt from the hair lines and improved the look substantially. Initial timing tests looked good but then, for some reason, the watch would stop after a couple of days and I'm not quite sure why. Maybe I forgot got to wind it. The watch was re-cased in a Bell 14k GF SB&B OF case that once housed the 974 318793 as both these watches shared positive set (detent) stems that require a a somewhat long necked case. The original case, the Keystone J.Boss, GF 20yr. Triple hinged OF case, # 4441115 was extremely brassed and had closure issues with the rear cover and inside dust cover. Finished Jan 3rd, 1903 and sold Jan. 8th, 1903 to wholesale jeweler Wheeler and Co. of New York City This movement is "positive set" with a detent stem. Turning the screw near the winding wheel in the direction of the arrow stamped next to it allows the stem to be removed, after which the movement can be removed from the case. |
