Dial Signing Name
Dial Details An important and very intriguing aspect of this watch is found under its dial, where the reverse of the dial is signed beneath its glaze with "H.M. Haines, Waltham Mass." and with a date that appears to be Feb. 18 of either 1861 or 1867. This name is notable to Waltham collectors as Henry Mayo Haines was the foreman of Waltham's "18 size finishing room" per Henry G. Abbott's 1888 book "The Watch Factories of America, Past and Present." While at Waltham, H.M. Haines also patented a stem-winding and setting mechanism that received U.S. patent number 308409 in 1884.
