Curator Response: Thanks for the report. This serial number preceeds Elgin's transition to the 6-Size movement by several years. The movements are very similar, but the 8-Size is slightly larger in diameter. A keen eye can differentiate between the two sizes immediately. I should note that there has been one early Grade 71 private label movement seen that was apparently trimmed down to 6-Size from a standard 8-Size movement. Aside from that anomoly, the first run of 6-Size Grade 71 movements began with serial #3,006,001. If you would like to upload an image of your watch, I would be happy to take a closer look and confirm either way.

Curator Response: Thanks for the report. Elgin Grade 71 was exclusively a 17-Jewel movement throughout production. Please verify the serial number is correct. If possible, please upload an image of the movement to your collection so we can take a closer look.
