Curator Response: Thanks for uploading the images. The "Half-Nickel" designation is from Elgin's original material catalogs describing this grade (and others). At this time, I am unclear what this specification was intended to imply. Some movements with this "half-nickel" designation appear to have a full nickel finish while others feature a gilt barrel. This topic demands additional research.
