Curator Response: Thanks for the report. After reviewing the auction images, it has been determined that this movement contains parts from two separate and distinct movements. The serial number, marked on the barrel bridge, correctly corresponds to a Grade 406. The finishing and markings on the barrel/center bridge are consistent with other Grade 406 movements. Take note of the composition screw settings and damaskeening pattern. In contrast, the 4th wheel and escape wheel bridge is marked “23 Jewels” and features raised gold settings, inconsistent with the Grade 406 designation. The balance also features gold screw settings and chamfered regulator, consistent with the 12-Size 23-Jewel Grade 410. Since the pillar plate is clearly marked “Motor Barrel,” the 23-Jewel movement was likely original, subjected to a replacement barrel/center bridge pulled from a donor movement. The serial numbers marked under the parts will confirm this analysis. Unfortunately, this is a rather uncommon and very fine movement that has been ruined with an improper repair.
