Research Note: #50778: Verified 17-Jewels (lower center wheel jeweled on pillar plate), Marked "Adjusted." These movements were likely upgraded from 15-Jewel Grade 97 to 17 Jewels. The Model 2, 17 Jewel, Gilt, Adjusted grade correlates to the Grade 80 classification. However, based on known grade lists, the Grade 80 was not introduced until around 1895, approximately five years after the original estimated production of this run (the preceeding run of Grade 97 movements, c.1890). So, this run is either a 17-Jewel varaition of the Grade 97 (prior to the introduction of the Grade 80), or it was existing inventory upgraded to 17 jewels after the Grade 80 was introduced. Interestingly, the Grade 97 was discontinued as the Grade 80 was being introduced. Similar production occured with the Grade 197/180 (Nickel versions of the 97/80).
