Serial Number 6006729 was reported as inaccurate.

Note: This watch is a 17j Crescent St. and it is so
marked. I realize the info is related to a "mixed
run", but wonder if Crescent St grades were
adlusted to 6 positions, as were Grade 35 watches,
in this time period?
Curator Response: Excellent question. While descriptions from the 1880s indicate that the No. 35 was adjusted to six positions, most of the catalog descriptions throughout the 1890s describe both the Crescent St. and the No. 35 as simply being "adjusted to heat, cold, and position" (sometimes expressed as "adjusted to temperature, isochronism and position"). Around 1900, we begin to see the Crescent St. explicitly advertised with five positional adjustments, but these descriptions are associated with the Model 1892 and Model 1899 movements. The Model 1883 Crescent St. and No. 35 movements were officially discontinued in late 1894, which is why we probably see such a mixed run late like this in production with various "finished" grades and private label movements extending into 1897. Following the official discontinuation, the factory continued to manufacture some of these movements in limited runs as needed.
