Research Notes

The Rockford Grade 76 was produced in three limited runs, totaling 500 movements. Based on the Openface Model 7 design, the Grade 76 features finely damaskeened plates with 15 jewels in red settings. Movements are marked "R.W.Co. - Rockford Ill. - Adjusted" in blackletter ("Old English") style. Some movements are additionally marked "15 J." The 1896 A.C. Becken catalog describes Grade 76 as "adjusted," indicating the movements were likely adjusted to temperature and isochronism. The first two runs are fitted with an "outboard" micrometric regulator, while the last run transitions to an "inboard" Reed variant micrometric regulator located on the balance cock. The last run also features the switch on the barrel bridge to alternate the setting mechanism between lever-set and pendant-set.
