Research Notes
The Grade 94 was a very popular grade produced by the Rockford Watch Company during the late 1880s and 1890s. The 9-Jewel Gilt movement was positioned at the low-end of the market compared to the full product line. This created an affordable option that was easy to sell as an everyday-carry watch. In the 1896 A.C. Becken catalog, the Grade 94 could be purchased for $9.50, compared to $50.00 for the elite grades No. 80 and No. 60. In addition to the seven standard jewels in the balance and escapement, the Grade 94 movements feature screw-set jeweling on upper third and fourth wheels.
