Serial Number 877796 was reported as inaccurate.

Note: I have been servicing watch's for five dacades and
have seen and serviced many railroad grade
watches.
This watch not only has all of the earmarks of a
railroad grade watch from it'slarge bold black
numerals on the face bold black hands well matked
minutes and every five minutes red numerals.
Lever set. And more jewels and adjustments then
were even required.
I just looked up a Hamilton database on Hamilton
railroad watch's build for railroad use that list
the 993 with 21 jewels and five adjustments.in a
hunter case.
As a model built for railroad use from 1905 to
1925.
This information isdirectly from the Hamilton
watch company.
And cannot be disputed.
So you can now change your description on this
and all other 993 grade Hamilton pocket watch's.
They are indeed Railroad Grade.
Confirmed .
Thank You.
Sincerely and best regards.
Robert Nicholas.
Curator Response: Thanks for the report. However, in 1912, hunting watches (stem at the 3:00) were not accepted on the majority of American railroads. As a result, this watch would not have qualified for railroad service at the time of production. (Prior to wide adoption of railroad standards requiring open face configuration, c.1906, the Grade 993 would have qualified).

Robert, please reach out using the contact form. I can provide additional information on the 993 regarding the "railroad approved" timeline of the 993. It was originally railroad grade when introduced, but would was no longer accepted in 1912. Requirements began to become more relaxed again in the 1920s.
